It’s peak summer in Wheeling, with no shortage of events on hand this weekend. There is live music everywhere, a Chariot Street Fest, the farmer’s market, a vintage car show, and predictably unpredictable weather. Slide on in to the ‘Big Wheel’ for summer fun this weekend.
Friday, July 16
At the Waterfront Movie Night, “The War with Grandpa” begins at dusk (roughly 9:30 pm). The film is about a young boy who fights in a prank war with his grandfather to get his grandfather to move out of his room after moving in with his family, stars Robert DeNiro, Oakes Fegley, and Uma Thurman. Wheeling Park celebrates its 95th birthday all summer long with live entertainment, local vendors, food trucks, games, and much more every Friday night from 5 – 9 pm! Free Admission 1801 National Road.
The Bridge Tavern is a legendary eatery and watering hole in Downtown Wheeling. Located across from the Capitol Theatre, it has always been a before-and-after hot spot for concerts and shows. In recent years the Tavern has come under new ownership. It has a new feel, a BRAND SPANKIN’ NEW NEON GUITAR above its door and hosting its music concerts throughout the summer. Centre Market Concert Series kicks off a weekend of events at the Market Houses. The Ohio Valley’s Premier Band of Musicians, Hoard & Jones, will delight the crowd with an array of America’s finest country and popular songs. The music begins at 8:00 pm. FREE Admission. 2200 Market Street.

The Wheeling Farmer’s Market is where you will find fresh and local produce to help keep your food dollars in the Ohio Valley. Join farmers from throughout the Wheeling area at the Wheeling Farmers Market Saturdays 8-12 in the St. Michael’s parking lot, 1225 National Rd.

At the Chariot Street Fest, Hundreds of smiling faces greet Lord Jagannatha, the Lord of the Universe, as He and His brother and sister, Balarama and Subhadra, ride upon a colorful chariot down the streets of Wheeling every year. Parade at 5 pm, Cultural Activities, Vegetarian Feasts, Indian Street Food, Market, Children’s Crafts, Free Admission 2–8:00 pm.
The Planet 23 Studios 15 Minute Film Festival at Towngate Theatre will showcase fifteen selected films from more than 200 entries from 30 countries. Genres include comedy, drama, animation, and documentaries. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top four finishers. An Audience Choice for best film will also be awarded. Tickets are just $10. The Wheeling Heritage Port Car Show will fire up at the waterfront. Registration is from 9 am to Noon; Show from 11 am to 4 pm $5 entry to participate in the show. The First 100 entries will receive a dash plaque and giveaway. Cash prizes for the Top 20 Cars. Entertainment by the Spike Man. Free to see the cars.
A Hard Day’s Night, Beatles Tribute, gives the weekend a grand finale at the Sunday Funday Summer Concert at Oglebay’s Amphitheater.
