Saturday Night’s Alright for FUN

Saturday Night’s Alright for ‘FUN’

By: Jeremy Morris

Sir Elton John may have sung Saturday Night’s Alright for Fightin’ but in Wheeling we prefer FUN!  Saturday, October 19th will be a fun day indeed, and we’ll leave the fightin’ to our hockey team.

There is a gauntlet of events to put Autumn into full swing. Pace yourself, it is an action-packed day of family fun in the Friendly City.  Steady wins the race on days like these.

Run For Your Life

Join the Wheeling Symphony Auxiliary in a fundraiser that is sure to elevate your blood pressure and get that adrenaline pumping. This 5K run/walk will provide spooky fun for all. Costumes are strongly encouraged.

Check-in opens at 8:00 am at Wheeling’s Heritage Port. There will be an 8:30 a.m. mini monster 100-yard dash for kids and the 5K begins at 9:00. $35.00 pre-registration, $45.00 the day of the race. The Mini Monster Dash for kids 10 and under is free. Register here.

To Market, To Market

Join Grow Ohio Valley for opening day of the new Public Market from Noon – 7 p.m. for a pig roast, live music, yoga, a pop-up pumpkin patch, and lots of fun for the kids. This previously vacant space has received a transformation into a Public Market, creating an opportunity for regional farmers to sell their crops and providing residents and visitors easy access to local and organic produce.  Find the full schedule of events for the day here.

On a Wish and a Song

It’s an event sure to make Sir Elton smile!  Join the Special Wish Foundation for Lip Sync Challenge Ohio Valley 2019 presented by Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack. The event pits local civic personalities against one another in a competition of song and dance, including the Wheeling-Ohio County CVB’s very own marketing director, Olivia Litman.

Come out and support a wonderful charity that honestly makes special wishes come true.  A Special Wish Ohio Valley Chapter (ASWOV) has granted over 500 wishes to children in Belmont, Brooke, Hancock, Harrison, Jefferson, Marshall, Monroe, and Ohio Counties.

Curtain goes up at 7 p.m. on the stage at Wheeling Racetrack and Casino. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased here.

The Puck Drop Here

Root for the Wheeling Nailers in their home opener against the Indy Fuel.  The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. inside Wesbanco Arena. Pregame festivities will include the players arriving for the game in classic cars, a car show along Nailers Way, and inflatables for the kids at Heritage Port.  Arrive early and get your 2019-20 Nailers magnetic schedule at the door. Purchase tickets here.
