Live Music Springs Forward in Wheeling

Shake off the winter blues by checking out all the great live music in Wheeling this month. With diverse genres at different venues, there are plenty of entertainment options for all music lovers all around the Friendly City.

Forces of Nature at the Capitol Theatre

Maestro John Devlin began this year’s incredible Wheeling Symphony season with an Opening Night Gala Celebration featuring Christylez Bacon, Evan Meier, and Yo-Yo Ma. The season will continue on March 18th with Forces of Nature. The program is, “…focused around the ideas of incredible women, a sense of Homer, and the forces of nature.” Clarice Assad, Angélica Negrón, and Bridgette Gan are featured performers for the evening.

Vue 42

Enjoy the atmosphere of Wheeling’s popular Centre Market historic district at Vue 42. The cocktail bar’s menu features signature cocktails, flatbreads, “Big A$$ Sandwiches”, and more. Since opening last year, the bar regularly featured local and regional artists. A great live music lineup is scheduled every Friday. Regional favorite band Twice as Nice will perform March 10th. A special St. Patty’s Party will be held March 17th. Vocalist Haley Bundy will perform March 24th. Shawn Villamagna will round out the month on March 31st.

St. Patrick’s Day Celebration at Ohio County Public Library

Faire May, local traditional folk band, return to the Lunch with Books at the Ohio County Public Library for the annual St. Patrick’s Day Celebration. Faire May will perform a selection of Irish rebel tunes like “Come Out Ye Black and Tans,” “Kevin Barry”, and  “Take It Down from the Mast” along with some familiar classics. Music will be alternated with Irish poems.

Jazz from Oglebay Institute

The Eric DeFade Trio continue Jazz at the Stifel season on March 11th. The Pittsburgh Jazz Hall of Fame member has performed on the Oprah Winfrey Show with legendary jazz vocalist Nancy Wilson. DeFade has played on two Grammy Award-winning projects and won an Emmy for his work on the music special, “Live From Studio A.” During his career, DeFade has performed on the PBS series “My Music” and with Rosemary Clooney, Josh Groban, the New York voices, among others.

Bridge Tavern

The Bridge Tavern has become a favorite venue for local music fans. The live music at the legendary restaurant and bar is always exciting with lineup of honky-tonk country, rock, bluegrass, Americana, and more. The Bridge Tavern’s St. Patrick’s Day Celebration will be held on March 17th with Faire May. Bluegrass favorite Brother Randell & Friends return to the Bridge Tavern on Saturday, March 25th. Be sure to come early to enjoy the great menu and stay for the music!

Wheeling Polka Festival

The 10th Annual Wheeling Polka Festival returns to Oglebay’s Wilson Lodge from March 24th-26th. In addition to renowned polka bands, the festival features dancing and delicious Polish food. The musical lineup this year features the Polka Family Band, NuTones, The Beat, The Boys, John Gora Band, and Dynabrass.
