Enjoy Classical Music in the Historic Stifel Mansion.

Enjoy an afternoon of classical music with pianist Gerald Lee in one of Wheeling’s grand, historic properties.

Lee is an acclaimed pianist and professor of piano at West Liberty University.

The program begins with a lyrical impromptu by Franz Schubert. Two emotionally profound art songs by Schubert (arranged by Franz Liszt) will follow:  The Miller and the Brook and Gretchen at the Spinning Wheel.  Next up is Frédéric Chopin’s elegant, luxurious, and beloved Barcarolle.  The recital program concludes with Ludwig van Beethoven’s final piano sonata – a masterpiece of transcendent spirituality, composed in complete deafness.

The 100-year-old Edemar Mansion (now known as the Stifel Fine Arts Center) is the former home of one of Wheeling’s most prominent families and is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

While enjoying the concert, marvel at the stained glass windows, grand central staircase, marble floors and the majestic fireplace in the formal living room. During warm weather, stroll through the gardens. You can also view the art on display in the gallery.
