About the Movie

“Selma” is the story of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s historic struggle to secure voting rights for all people – a dangerous and terrifying campaign that culminated with the epic march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, and led to President Johnson signing the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Directed by Ava DuVernay, the film stars actors David Oyelowo as King, Tom Wilkinson as President Lyndon B. Johnson, Tim Roth as George Wallace, Carmen Ejogo as Coretta Scott King, and Common as James Bevel.

At the 87th Academy Awards, “Selma”  was nominated for Best Picture and won Best Original Song for “Glory” by John Legend and Common.

Why Go To the Movie Theater?

Get off the couch! Stop binge watching by yourself. Hollywood movies are meant to be seen with others, in the movie theater, on the BIG screen. The actors are figuratively and literally larger than life! Get together with other movie lovers. Engage in thought-provoking conversation.
