A familiar Wheeling landmark is entering a new chapter as Tony and Lydia Chiazza prepare to open Lydia’s, a new locally owned boutique at 600 National Road.

The Chiazzas purchased the historic Hughes Gift Gallery property following the retirement of longtime owner Mary Beth Hughes. The couple has invested more than $500,000 into the building, breathing new life into the property while creating a new business destination for the Wheeling community.

The Chiazzas are also keeping a piece of the property’s history alive. Mary Beth Hughes will continue the design portion of her business from the building, with the Chiazzas renting space to her for that purpose.

At the heart of the new retail concept will be Lydia’s, a boutique reflecting Lydia Chiazza’s own personal style and vision. The store will feature a curated selection of women’s clothing, jewelry, home goods, gifts and accessories, along with offerings designed for brides, bridal parties and special occasions.

The upstairs portion of the building will also be utilized for office space, creating additional opportunities for businesses and professionals within the historic property.

Lydia brings years of retail experience to the venture, having previously helped with Nini’s Treasures, a business formerly operated by her family. That experience helped inspire her to create a boutique of her own — one that would be more personalized and reflective of her individual vision.

Now, Lydia and her husband, Tony, are taking that vision one step further by investing significantly in a historic Wheeling property and creating a new destination for shoppers while maintaining a connection to the building’s past.

“We’re really excited to open our doors and create something that is truly our own,” Lydia said. “We want Lydia’s to be a place where people can come in, find something special and enjoy the experience of shopping locally.”

The Chiazzas, along with their daughter, Carmella, invite the public to celebrate the grand opening of Lydia’s on:
