Oglebay’s Annual Festival of Lights will shine bright starting on Nov. 11 and will run through Jan. 1, 2017. The attraction is a national holiday favorite, and the light show is featured on several Top Ten lists throughout the travel and tourism industry. Originally started in 1985, the light show has grown to encompass a six-mile drive throughout 300 acres of the resort’s property. There are over 80 light displays to take in, and new displays are added each year.

This year, many activities for the whole family will be added to the festival. One new feature this year is the Christmas at Crispin area. Visitors can shop for one-of-kind decorations, ornaments and collectibles at a transformed area near the tennis courts. From Nov. 25 to Dec. 23, visitors can even find the perfect Christmas tree, as The Boy Scouts of America will sell fresh-cut Christmas trees in the parking lot of the Christmas at Crispin area. Also new this year are holiday-themed train and hay wagon rides operating daily (weather permitting), as well as a holiday straw maze.

The Pine Room at Oglebay will transform into a holiday wonderland of trees, wreaths, centerpieces and swags decorated by area designers. Items will be displayed from Nov. 11 through Nov. 19 and will be available for purchase. Later in the season, the Pine Room will display a collection of trees representing different cultures and ethnic backgrounds from Dec. 1 through Dec. 31. From Nov. 11 to Jan. 1, 2017, The Club Room will feature gingerbread house displays, winter family photo-ops, caroling, entertainment and holiday snacks and treats available for purchase.

The light displays are viewable Sunday through Thursday until 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday until 11 p.m. A per-car donation is requested and is valid for viewing the lights the entire festival season. Trolley tours are also offered several times each night starting from Wilson Lodge. Overnight lodging packages and a variety of dining options during the Festival of Lights are still available.
